Seedcorn Fund
MDENet’s Seedcorn Fund is now open for applications. If you feel that you have an idea for a collaboration or project driven by the software industry or by stakeholders from other subject areas that could benefit from MDE, this is the grant for you.
We are accepting submission from teams consisting of at least one UK academic currently working in the area of MDE and one partner from industry or an academic from a scientific discipline outside of computer science. Larger teams of applicants are explicitly welcome.
While the money can only be paid to someone in the UK, projects can include non-uk partners.
Projects can request up to £5,000, but smaller projects are explicitly welcome.
If you think this might interest you, register on our MDENet community platform and head to our Funding topic here. This fund is open throughout the year but if you want to have your bid assessed on the next panel meeting, you just have to fill out the form and submit it before the 31st May.
Dissemination Fund
MDENet’s Dissemination Fund is now open for applications. If you feel that you have an idea to disseminate knowledge about MDE, MDENet or MDENet activities, this is the grant for you!
Grants of £1,000 maximum can be requested but smaller grants are also acceptable.
If you think this might interest you, register on our MDENet community platform and head to our Funding topic here.
Commissioning Fund
Do you* have an idea about something that would help people learn about MDE – tutorial, video, exercise, pedagogical case study, trade press article – that you’d love to create, and for which funding of up to £5k would help? That’s what the Commissioning Fund is for.
Starting in 2022 we are trialling a rolling, lightweight application process. No deadlines, no fixed forms. Please send us an application to mdenet@kcl.ac.uk that specifies:
The title of whatever it is you want to develop
The intended target audience (e.g. what background will you assume?)
The learning objectives
What it is that needs to be done
The justification of the resources you are asking for – who will do the work, and what will cost what?
Timescale: if the funds are awarded, when will you start and finish work?
Questions, and informal approaches prior to an application, are of course welcome.
* because the network’s current funds come from EPSRC, you will have to be in the UK to be funded from here.
Dissemination of MDE at Industrial Conferences - Call for Expressions of Interest
MDENet is keen to support the dissemination of MDE ideas at industrial conferences, such as but not limited to FOSDEM or KubeCon. The MDENet dissemination fund offers an excellent opportunity to support colleagues (from the UK), who want to represent MDENet, and MDE ideas, at such a conference.
We are, therefore, calling for expressions of interest from UK members of MDENet for the attendance of relevant industrial events. Members supported via the dissemination fund will be expected to give a presentation about MDENet and MDE ideas at the conference – this could be a presentation as part of the regular programme or a stand / poster, depending on what is the most suitable format for the conference. Funding can be requested to support travel, conference fees (where applicable), and presentation materials (e.g., posters, stands, etc.). Limited funding is available, but we will review any reasonable requests.
When submitting an expression of interest to mdenet@kcl.ac.uk, please include the following information:
- Name of the conference
- Name and affiliation of MDENet member
- One paragraph summary of what the conference is about
- One paragraph statement of audience targeted and why we should target this conference
- One paragraph statement of how you intend to represent MDENet and MDE at the event
- Overview of expected costs
We will accept and review proposals on a rolling basis and will aim to respond within two working weeks.
